How do you use it?  No really, you read that right...

I took the barracuda for a short ride today to stretch its legs, and had a blast, except...

I have a Holley electric fuel pump, so I was told I have to start it in neutral.  Of course you can't read what gear you're in, so you pull it down to low 1, then slap it forward like a slapstick, and when it doesn't go any farther, it must be in neutral.  No prob, all good to go.  So I start it, back it out, drop it in low 1, and away I go.  As needed, I slap it forward into higher gears.

But when I came to a stoplight, I pulled the ratchet (whatever it's called), and dropped it back into low 1.  I started driving, and when I slapped it, it didn't shift into 2nd.  I'm sure it's driver error.  Am I supposed to do something different, like bring it into neutral, then all the way down to low 1 before I can slap it forward?   :dunno:  What's the trick to correctly using a B&M Megashifter?

That is why I do not like ratchet shifters , I like the the shifter handle to change positions when you shift it. It is almost like the brain "registers" it better that you shifted. :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

the Factory Slapstick is far better , you may need to tweak the adjustment to get the shift to line up correctly

This is the only aftermarket shifter I like. It is not a ratchet shifter.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm with all of you, and will change this back.  I've seen the original setup very briefly, but haven't done this before.  Is there anything tricky I should be aware of?  It seems to me it should be as simple as unscrewing the plate that holds it on, releasing a rod IIRC, and replacing it with the new one?  Or should I take out the whole console to get to it?  Thanks, just looking ahead.  Cheers.

you have to remove the console /4 screws/ ususally just cleaning & lubing the shifter will get it working correctly again , sometimes the spring will break & will require a replacement

but one of the things I like about the factory Slap Stik shifter is that the gear indicator needle changes color depending what gear you in. 

Also, it does work pretty cool!  :thumbsup:

I guess that makes 3 goofy people , I have not found any aftermarket shifter that is as reliable & simple to operate as the factory Slapstick , not that I have ever owned one being a 4 spd guy

Another fun factory shifter (Close your eyes of you don't like Pontiacs!) is from the Trans Ams with the WS6 handling package.  Other cars may have had something similar but I don't know.  :dunno:

The shifter looked like a regular Trans Am shifter but on certain ones when you drop it in 1st and push it to the right about 1/2", the shifter would only move up one gear at a time, like a Slap Stik but you didn't have to push the shifter button to bring it back to neutral.

Ok, back to Mopars....

Yeah, I am a little goofy.  Many of the people I work with think I am goofy because I like Mopar.

Nah, they're justy jealous!  :smilielol:  It's a good goofy, though.

We're all in the same  :crazy: goofy batch, I really like the slapstick shifter. Hit it hard from first to second, let up a bit off of the lever slam it into the next one. Simple and sweet.
