sorr y i was so vague. thery will going on a 72 chally with a 440. i dont want to have to bend header tubes and cut fenders etc etc. but i would like to get somethin other that stock manifolds. the engine has been beefed up some .... so i would like to get as much flow as possible without going to a full lenght header

Shorties are a compromise. You won't get the flow or HP gain that you would from full headers, but they are easier to deal with as far as installing. Yes, I believe they would be better than the stock manifolds.  :grinyes:

I know you said that you didn't want full length headers because you didn't want to have to bend, cut, or otherwise modify your headers or underhood area.  Have you considered TTi's?  They are expensive up front, but worth every dime IMO.  No mods required on my car and many others have posted as to their quality on this board.  That way you get the best of everything: no bending, cutting or modifying, AND you get the performance that your engine was made for....    :cooldancing:     Oldschool

MEK do you have the full length? or shorty's? When i bought the car it had full lenght headers and i had to replace the starter which is where my hatred towards full lenght headers comes from. So just so i am clear you recommend full TTI headers??

It is true that shorty headers are a compromise but I went with them after getting a standard set of hedman headers and fighting them all the time. I modified my shorty headers with a 3" ball flange collector and put O2 sensor bungs in each header so I can use an air/fuel meter on each bank to use for carb tuning. The one thing you need to remember is you will need to buy a mini starter with shorty headers, at least hedmans shorty headers. I already had a mini so the shorties worked great for me. Good luck and I agree that tti's would be the best way to go if you can pony up the coin.  :money:

You have an RB engine. Play it safe and get 1 3/4" primaries. Any larger than that would be more for just drag racing and take away from your bottom end performance.
