Will 5/16 fuel lines adequately supply a moderately built 440?
« on: November 13, 2006 - 08:44:43 AM »
My '73 Challenger has a 440 in it. However, it till retails the 5/16 fuel lines from the tank to engine compartment.

I'm looking at replacing the fuel pump and wanted to know if I should step up to a 3/8 set up, or would the 5/16 work fine?

I'm thinking I would like to get somewhere around 550hp out of the motor... so nothing major, but still a big leap from what those lines were originally feeding.

Can 5/16 handle it?

I say if you're going to have over 500HP, you need to upgrade IMO.  Don't forget the sending unit also as that needs updated too!

Upgrade, the fuel line isn't very expensive. My 318 has the fuel system to supply 11's. Overkill never hurt.  :screwy: :grinyes:

I ran low 12s with 5/16 "lines then they became restrictive  but they will work to about 500 hp then I upgraded to 3/8"

Gotcha. Sounds like I'd be pushing their limit with the hp I'm wanting.

Looks like 3/8 is in her future.
