Adding Options to Restoration Project
« on: November 20, 2006 - 07:38:00 PM »
I have a project car that I really like how equiped except for two items.  I would love cruise control and power windows.  Would the addition of said options be frowned upon.  No, they won't majically show up on a fender tag (I have the build sheet too).  But if I ever finish the car, I think they would be nice touches.  The car is kind of a funky color combination (one of 7 in Barry's registry).

Personally, if the car is a real T/A, Hemi or 6-Pack car, I wouldn't do it. But anything else, why not.  And frowned upon is only a concern if you frown upon it - it's your car.

So far I have added a passenger side mirror and two six-way seat adjusters to my T/A.

I am struggling with also adding a factory sunroof and rear window louvers and deleting the center console though......

Only time will tell on those three.

Most additional "options" can be reversed later if needed, so do what you like, it is your car.

The power windows an cruise would be nice, but they can get very expensive and a royal pain in the butt to troubleshoot. It's your car and do what you want with it. Don't worry about making other people happy, it doesn't go to their garage at the end of the day.

Hey Barry, don't put the sunroof on such a rare car, sell it to me so I can put it on my much less rare and valuable Challenger    :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:

I have power windows in Lucy and manual in the 'Cuda. IMO the Manual is the only way to go.
Less weight, the mechs in these cars are old and slow even when working 100%.

Your car so go hard brother......

You can easily add relays to that the motors work a lot faster.

Cruise and PW can easily be reversed.  I'd do it.

Do you plan on dumping it right away?

Barry

 Factory sunroof! :o Really?

Joe

PS, My car has the following options added (or will be added):

Rear Defrost
Disc Brake
Rim Blow steering wheel

Unless it's a rare car, don't sweat the things that can be reversed.  Make it the way you want it. :2cents:

It is your car and the options can be removed later if wanted. I know many people that have added options so they now own what they want as far as options.

Yip, got relays. It's fine but just bloody lazy and nothing like electric windows in today's cars.
You can get them up faster by simply moving your arm 8" and winding it up manually.  :P

I added a passenger side mirror, the hood black out & cruise on mine, any one asks I'm happy to tell them, they don't like it I'm hapy to tell them tough $hit.. :smilielol: I don't think I could do the sunroof to a T/A, but most options if you like it & have access I say Do It! BTW I have relays on my power windows & they work as well as the ones on my late model daily driver...

If you have power top convertible, Power Windows are the Only choice, obviously,  If not convertible Power Windows still excellent choice

There are several companies that have conversion kits, if you plan to drive long trips, cruise also an excellent choice

I have every late model convenience in my 69 camaro convertible, a/c, power windows, remote door locks (saves the key locks scratches on the door locks), tilt column, power disc brakes, etc.

Do it and drive it. :working:

Thanks for the point of views.  I don't plan on selling the car, but there is another car that I would like to purchase, and if the owner decides to sell to me, then the Challenger goes down the road.  I am still a long way away from finishing the car so I have some time to decide.
