Front end rebuild
« on: November 17, 2006 - 05:16:42 PM »
:screwy:  Hey everyone I have a question regarding bushings on the lower control arms.  Here are the details.   I recently purchased a Poly. rebuild kit for my 72 Challenger from P-S-T.   Everything seems fine with the kit except for the difference in bushings for the lower control arms.  These bushings in the kit seem like they are going to be too small and seem different than stock.  Below is a link from Year one that shows what the bushing in the P-S-T kit looks like.  (Couldn't find a good picture on the P-S-T site)  I confirmed with both Year One and P-S-T that this is indeed the bushing that should be used.  However, the original piece looks much different.  The original has a tall mushroom head rubber part that is nothing like the new piece that is suppose to replace it.  I know this is difficult to explain without an actual picture of what I'm talking about, but any help or ideas would be great!   :dunno:

picture doesnt work. but the factory/replacement rubbers are a different style than the polys that are out there. Do you have a picture of what you have and why you feel it is too small? Poly, if i remember right should be two pieces, the rubber is one (pita to get in) bushing.

Hmmm?   Try this.   Click on the link provided.  Then click on "Suspension" on the left hand side.  Then click on "lower Control Arm Bushings" in the middle of the screen under FRONT END.  That should bring up a picture of the new bushing.  I know its hard without actual pictures to see what I'm talking about.  I'd post an actual picture of the issue but I'm currently at work.  If I need to I'll try and post actual pictures later tonight.

Well I tried to attatch a picture of what I was trying to describe but I keep getting an error message saying the file is too large.  Guess I'm just gonna take everything to a local shop and see what they can tell me.  Thanks for responding GoodysGotACUDA and trying to help!   I'll eventually get it figured out!

the rubber bushing comes with inner & outer steel sleeves molded on to the bushing , the poly just replaces the inner rubber the steel sleeves from the original bushings are retained & reused , you do not need to press them out just clen the original rubber out , I use a propane torch to soften the rubber to get the bushing apart
