4 speed overdrive

Just wondering Is it possible to put one of the 4 speed overdrive transmissions from a early eightys pickup in a cuda??? are they any good?

I have not personally done it myself, but others on this great site have, so u are at the right place. The A500 is made off the 904-998-999 style and the A518 is off the 727. Others will fill you in on the does+donts.

Were you talking about a 4 spd or auto trans?

I have done approx 10 [in E bodys]  - 833OD 4 spd swaps , they bolt in with virtaully No modification except some minor tweaking of the 3-4 shift rod , I had 1 customer ask me to take it back out , it was in a Charger
 if you are grabbing a truck 4 spd get the belhousing even if you are not bolting to a small block , the flywheel is correct so grab it , the shifter will work , some of the clutck linkage will work or can be made to work as well
 I assume he is talking 833 as the early 80s pick ups didn`t have auto 4 spd OD yet

Thanks chryco yeah i was talking about the 833..  Thats great This guy in town has a few of them he is trying to sell me.. So I think I 'll grab one! And with a little work maybe grab some gears too!

I put a 4-speed overdrive in my 340 Cuda this last August and I really like it. It makes for a great cruiser out on the road and still runs good around town. You have to flip the 3rd 4th gear lever on the transmission so 4th gear will be in the right place when you shift. Other than bend the 3rd 4th gear rod I had no real problems other than having the bellhousing opened up for the larger front input shaft bearing housing.

Chryco,my project has changed,lol.So there is no problem putting it in a 69 B body as well?WHy would you want the bell if you arent going to use it?Thanks

  This is just what I am looking for as I am changing the auto in the small block '70 Challenger to 4spd. I wanted to know approx. how long this would take to do, one long day or 2 days?
   I was hoping to convert it before I bring it back to Australia, less parts to bring back and if that little something that wasn't gotten before hand can still be chased up. :bananasmi

Typically it takes me about 24 hrs labor to do the swap , so 2 people in one day , or 2 long days alone
the OD trans also bolts into a B body But it is harder to make the shift rod fit if you use the normal forward B body location, it is possible to do the rear E body style shifter conversion in the earlier B body though
 I alway take the small block belhousings , invariably someone needs them like Aussie Chall will
