I am glad cooler heads prevailed!!  :2thumbs:   I don't think your crazy, look back to my original post on 2nd page.

I know a lot of you will think I am crazy to fall for this but my rationale is that I would rather pay a little more to have
a completed and assembled car (back in MY garage) and have some recourse if I have some paint or body work issues than to have it yanked out of there by the sheriff and try and find another body shop to complete the work. Plus with attorney fees nobody would really win and I would be set back another couple of months. We have had a great relationship throughout the process and hopefully I am making the right decision.

Am I nuts? I think next time I will buy a completed car.  This resto stuff is killing me. As always your comments and opinions are highly valued....!

I hope this all works out and this is by far the best solution for you. If there is a problem you will have them to fall back on and take care of the issue. I would hate to give them more money but I would want my car back in one piece so this is by far the best route to go. Take lots of pictures when you get your cuda back as I for one can't wait to check it out. Good luck and I still think this is total BS and they should of told you they were running over the original estimate and told you by how much way before this as none of us wants a surprise like this when getting our Mopar's restored.

Thanks guys,

I think this is the best approach right now. Tomorrow when we sit down and discuss the final numbers I am sure we can reach an agreement. They asked me the other day if I felt F***'d and I said 100% yes and then some. So they know where I was coming from.

This whole last two weeks has made me sick and I just want to get my car back and get back to normal. Whatever we work out tomorrow I will get in writing this time !!

Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving!

Body and paint are the smoke and mirrors area of restoration. Almost everything else can be nailed down with a firm estimate. For their part, almost every car, or shell, a bodyshop gets needs more work than expected as the owner didn't completely strip and media blast the shell. That's the body shop's job. So many more horror stories are encountered. Plus there is no flat rate book to say how much job X can take and how much one should charge. That calls into play the capabilities of the person doing the work. John may be able to block sand a fender in an hour, whereas Frank may take 3 hours. So on both sides its hard to be accurate with estimates.

Most decent restoration body jobs and paint with average metal working are running near the $20K mark around here. There are quite a few who are saying no to a restoration and enjoying the cars.

6pk,

I agree. When the body shop is done I will be right around $20K for the body work and paint. If I would have known that in the beginning I would have not gone through this process but just enjoyed the car as it was.

I have been wondering if my car had been a Camaro or a Mustang that wasn't worth nearly as much would the prices be the same. I can at least be confident that my car will at least be worth more than the money that I have into right now and it will be done correctly. At least that is what I keep telling myself..lol

Good for you BS, I am glad they are willing to be somewhat reasonable with you.  Hopefully the people in the shop have learned a lesson as well.  They need to be HONEST with their customers, but I guess that word isn't in their vocabulary most of the time.  Go get your CUDA!
