Ram engine question
« on: November 22, 2006 - 06:07:58 PM »
Hey everyone.  I have a question regarding my '04 dodge ram.  (Moderator: If this is in the wrong place please move it.)

I changed my oil tonight and I found something disturbing under the oil fill reservoir cap.  Below are two pictures, one of the cap itself and one of the reservoir.  My truck is a 4.7L V8 and it has 40,XXX miles.  I have always used Mobil 1 synthetic and changed the oil and filter around 4,000 to 4,500 miles (factory recommends 5,000 miles).  I have never seen this yellowish goop before.  It smells really bad, like battery acid or burned electronics.  My truck hasn’t seemed like it started running bad or anything.  Does anyone know what the heck this stuff is or what could cause it?  Do I have antifreeze getting into my oil?  If you need more details or info let me know.  I appreciate any help or suggestions.

it could be water , generally it will create a root beer type foam in the engine , I would have the cooling system pressure tested , the other possibilty is just condensation which can happen this time of year with cooler temps overnight
