Billboards and vinyl top questions?????
« on: November 28, 2006 - 04:40:54 PM »
Now that I have got my cuda running I am turning to the cosmetic side of things and starting to get it looking better(calender material someday). The company I work for was recently bought out and part of the deal was they cashed out 2 weeks of vacation time I had comming. With this sudden extra funding  I am thinking of buying  a new vinyl top and bilboard stripe---but it might not be till the summer/fall of 08 untill I'm able to have the car painted. Do these things have a shelf life? I would have to store them in an unheated shed thru next winter. Or would it be better to get a few other things done first and get them later. I would'nt think there would be a big price increase over a year or so as these are not hard to get items but you never know.   Thanks---Doug

Doug,

I don't think there would be a problem. If it were for 5 years or something, then I could see it.

If you are going to store them they must be stored in a climate controlled place to make sure they do not go bad.  Inside your home should do it. The shed would not be the best place for them.  It is always best to use the freshest decals you can use.  They are vinyl.  Vinyl ages from the time it is made. The smell of vinyl is the solvents leaving it.  When the solvents are gone the vinyl becomes hard and cracks.  You can probably get by with getting them now and storing them in the shed.  If it were me I would wait until I needed them.

Bent,

Signguy here....hold off on the billboards until you need them.  Freshly cut vinyl is always better. It has a tendency to shrink a little once cut.  Just my 2 cents..
