Vinyl top install question
« on: January 01, 2007 - 06:30:14 PM »
Hello  and Happy New year to all, I have been busy the past few days on the car  :working:

I am getting ready to paint my Challenger and will be installing a vinyl top.
My question is what is a better foundation for the vinyl top , the roof painted or just the final Sealer Coat before Paint ?
Is one better than the other ?

thanks
Ben

I picked it up a while back when I was gathering parts, Ibeliee it was YR1 or the Paddock oneor the other.

I am not sure if it is better to glue it down to Paint or Primer Sealer.

The factory didn't paint the entire roof when they were installed , but most people paint the whole roof when replacing one. I usually don't paint the entire roof when I do one. My main reason is because the glue doesn't like to adhere to fresh paint. The gasses from the reducer are still coming out for a period of time and cause the glue to detach.
If you do paint the roof leave it set for a while and also lightly sand it to help the glue hold.
