I already checked to see if it's an Urban Legend:  http://www.snopes.com/business/taxes/excise.asp

http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=161506,00.html

Long story short,  on your 2006 U.S. tax return you'll get a refund on the Federal Excise Tax paid to phone companies.

Individual taxpayers can take a standard amount from $30 to $60 based on the number of exemptions claimed on their tax return.  For those claiming:

• one exemption, the standard refund amount is: $30
• two exemptions, the standard refund amount is: $40
• three exemptions, the standard refund amount is: $50
• four exemptions or more, the standard refund amount is: $60

I can't seem to find that law that says we MUST pay taxes.  I guess the war isn't paid for yet.

Chally6,

The 16th ammendment kinda covers it.  Some folks would insist that it doesn't say we Must pay, but most of them are doing time.

This I know to be true.  I have an eight year old daughter and volunteer to pay more taxes every year.   Just poking.   :poopoke:

Those of you that think you own your own homes, think again! The government owns them and you just rent from them. Think about it, if you quit paying your taxes what happens? The government comes and kicks you out of your house and takes it! Sounds like rent to me!!! :hyper:
