    Well was going finish install of 340 in 70 this weekend. While tightening rockerarms on passenger side bolt broke off in head on rocker shaft right in middle. Off course the bolt broke off flush so there is no way to get it unthreaded. So head has to come back off to go to machine shop to get this fixed. These were new 915 J heads from Aerohead Racing components. I am starting to wonder just how good a deal these were. At lot of the threads were not clean like sparkplugs and I had to work plugs in and out just to get them threaded. Has anyone else had any problems with products from this company? The heads were around $700 which I thought was a good price but who knows. Well anyway I'll take the head to my machine shop and have them check every threaded hole and clean and tap them just to make sure.

    From one "old" guy to another----that's a bummer.   :banghead:   Any way to use an EZ-out on it?  If that would work, you could save a ton of money and while you are at it, get a tap set and clean the threads yourself.  For the price of the machine shop, you could do it yourself and have a nice tap & die set..  Just a thought....    :cooldancing:

    bummer sorry to hear that. putting my motor together the first time, i didnt know any better, but i tried to reuse my stock rocker hold-down bolts. two of them 'popped' as i torqued them, scared the  :scared: outta me, turns out the bolt just totally deformed the threads. backed right out though, i got lucky.

    sounds like you need a chase set before you put anything else on those heads.  :crying:

    Oh I will have them all chased out before I put this head back on. What really made me mad was that it was 70 outside today. Perfect day to finish and go for a drive. But no, now it will be 20 and freezing before I get done.

    WOW you hit 70!!    That would be sweet!  Sucks about the busted bolt . . .  :banghead:

    The last time that happened to me it came out very easily with a left hand drill bit. Took about 10 secons with the head on the car. The LH bit "grabs" and unthreads the broken off part.  :thumbsup:

    I have heads from Aerohead Racing on the 383 in my Road Runner. For $600 I don't think you can go wrong. They put a lot of nice stuff in them for the price. I checked at a local machine shop and they couldn't touch my old ones for that price. I had great luck with mine and so did a friend that bought a set or his 71 Cuda.

    Yes the price was a great selling point for me also. Don't get me wrong they look great and I did spend extra for J castings and hard seats. The holes were not too clean asa far the treads. Maybe I just got one head that someone missed cleaning those. I hope to have the head back today and I'll try to install this weekend. I just wanted to know if anyone else had problems with this company.

    Ouch! That sure is dissapointing when you are that close to getting this done and run into something like this. Be sure you put a drop or two of oil on the threads before installing them. You can be glad it wasn't aluminum heads or it could turn into a real PITA. Let us know how it goes.  :thumbsup:

    Okay I got head back it cost me only $20 to get bolt out. I did pull out my old tap and die set and go thru rest of threads. There were a couple that were a little tight but now clean as a whistle. I know I should have done this before but I learned a cheap lesson. Now if thingsw work out right i will finish install this weekend. I will let you know how she turns out. Thanks for the advise. :worshippy
