The charger sales have been pretty good so why would they change it?  I love how people continue to complain about the 'charger' name being used because the new charger doesnt look like a 68-70......well either do the 66-67, 71-79, or even the 80s Chargers. If you wanted a 68-70 looking charger then go buy a 68-70 Charger, simple as that. The fact of the matter is that the new Charger would run circles around the old Chargers in almost every catogory that isnt opionated.

 :iagree:

Charger sales have been good and the fleet sales as a police car are only going to improve the numbers.  I think the number of current buyers far outnumbers the "enthusiasts" who won't buy it as a 4-door.

I think it's a nice looking car with great performance.  My only suggestion was to call the base and SXT models something else (like Coronet) and leave the Charger name for the R/T.  The fact that it has 4 doors doesn't bother me.  If they had made it a 2-door it wouldn't have sold, the car would be dead by now.  The market for large 2-door cars just isn't there.  As a dad with a 21-month-old, I can tell you that putting a baby into a car seat in a 2-door is a royal pain.

Having said that, I would have done something different with the Super Bee, like use the Magnum front end on it.  Just to distinguish it a bit.

And why don't I hear from all the '70s Magnum enthusiasts about the new Magnum being a 4-door?  Or a wagon?  C'mon people, Dodge has a RWD high performance sedan that runs 0-60 in under 6 seconds for around $30K!

Well, I guess it's a tossup on the 2-4 door debate. Just remember that the original 68-70 chargers were large 2-door performance vehicles, and they sold just fine, so there's no reason to believe they wouldn't today. I still think they should give it more of a retro look by at least redoing the grill/headlights.

They make a great looking police car! If the PD here goes to the Charger I might have to come out of retirement. NOT!

No reason except that the auto market is completely different and consumers' preferences have changed since the mid60s. There is no market for a large 2-door car. See Cadillac, Ford, Pontiac, etc.

The Charger was designed in the period where the front of every Chrysler product had o have that gaping maw look. Someone thought it must be reminiscent of the mid 50's 300 grill flipped and loved it. A poor look and it was repeated on almost every model up to this year. The generic of Mercedes and lineage from model to model may be fine for that marque, but not for a Chrysler product.
Unfortunately they are selling enough in fleet orders to make the car a success in total sales so it will not be changed. Unless the do redesign the front so its not so much of a brick at NASCAR.

Actually, the aerodynamics aren't bad, I think I read that the Cd was .37.  BTW, the Cd of a real brick is 2.0.

Actually, the Crown Vic was to be retired in 95 and they keep extending them. The Charger's downfall as a police car are they don't have the interior width of a CViv, the window hight is narrower and they can not go from reverse to drive oor vice versa without a 3 second pause
