sure grip clarification.

A friend of mine recently completed a 71 cuda restoration project.  The car is stunning.  I am putting together a car show placard for him and am trying to get some clarification on Sure Grip.

Is Sure Grip a particular differential?  Would a correct definition be a DANA rear with 3.54 gears and Sure Grip?

I guess I'm a little confused as to the terminology.

I think the terminology is Limited Slip for 8 3/4, But a Dana...  :dunno: maybe the same.

Lets check the parts book...

Ah, your right my 70 manual uses "Sure-Grip" for the Dana. So Yes.

thanks for the reply.  What does it mean?  Is Sure Grip a DANA term?  Or is it a Cuda specific option of some sort?

Sure grip is the correct terminology used by Mopar for their diffs. Limited slip is GM's terminology.

A Dana rear is the BIG one, 9 3/4" ring gear, also known as the Dane 60.

A Hotchkis is the 8 3/4" ring gear.

Sure Grip is the correct term for either one. All the Dana rears in these cars were Sure Grips, but not all 8 3/4" rears came with the Sure Grip.  ;)
