Whats the difference?
« on: January 04, 2007 - 04:55:07 PM »
I've been on ebay, spying trunk floors, trunk extensions, and lower rear quarter patches.  That is the only rust repair needed on my car.  What I'm wondering is, the 2 piece trunk floor I found on ebay is only 20 guage, seems VERY thin to me.  But, the floor halves purchased with the trunk supports that are welded underneath gives me free shipping.  What guage is Goodmark?  I've been reading the advantages and disadvantages on 1 piece trunk pan.  I dont want to remove my tail panel, is there any other way?  If no, then I would want a 2 piece pan, plus I think the two pieces are cheaper than the one piece anyways.  Thanks in advance, Im know these questions have come up before, just looking for more help.  Thanks

Steve

The only other way to install the 1 peice pan is to have a complete QTR off and remove the trunk rain gutter from that side. I've never had an issue with the guage steel on the 2 peice trunk floor. I have yet to try the 1 peice in the shop.
Cant kill the mean and ugly. Only the good die young...I plan to be here a while!!

I wish I had tested/tryed to install my one piece to answer your question as I see this question asked alot. The metal thickness should not be a problem.
If you are local to me I have a two piece I'd sell at my cost if you want it. I  bought it thinking the one peice would not be out in time.
For what it's worth I would go with the one piece as to not have to deal with the seam and the wrinkles in the two piece stamping.
If you decide to replace a quarter you could cut the rear lip and weld it in like the two piece at the tail light panel.
But it were me I'd remove the tail panel and go with the one piece.

Thanks guys.  I really dont need a whole quarter put in, and I dont want to take out the tail panel, so I guess 2 piece it is.  It is an arkansas car, the guy lived on a gravel road and spun, a lot.  So really there's only the bottom 3 or 4 inches behind the rear wheel for quarter rust.  Farmboy, Im in WI, Im sure you're a ways away from here, but if you're willing to ship it, I might be interested sometime in the future if you hang on to it, not now, too many things going on.  Thanks for the advice guys!  Thank goodness for the internet, sometimes.
