How to properly radius my wheel well??? (Drag Car)
« on: January 02, 2007 - 09:47:14 PM »
My car needs some help with the wheel well radius. I am going to make a template so that each side is the same shape, and trim/grind to make it look better. Previous owner kinda did a hack job when removing the quarter lip in the wheel well. What is the best way to make the edge smooth and join the metal back together??? I know that I am going to have to weld some small patches back in to get a nice/even shape. Should I just mig weld around the lip and grind it out to look smooth, or do you guys have a trick for this?? Not a body guy, so need some advice.

Thanks!

I assume the stock wheeltubs are long gone in there

When they setup the car they should have lenthend the wheelwell, not really change the radius.
First you need to fix those corners with either scratch built or store bought patch panels.
Then cut a box around the wheelwell about 3 inches above the edge and 3 inches to the front and back of the wheelwell with the super thin cutoff wheel
Cut the panel in half
Cut sections out of the quarters on either side and weld in the sections you cut off leaving a big gap in the middle.
Make a patch panel to fill in the gap

Or fix the corners and get smaller tires or move them in more   (not pretty)

I hope this made any sense.  I know the cutting and welding is hard but that's why the fabricators make the big bucks

360 Cuda,

You seem to be pretty handy with photoshop.  Would you mind trying something for me.  Put a pro-stock scoop on the hood, paint the car 1971 Dodge Green Go w/Yellow & Orange flames on the scoop & fenders.  I don't ask for much, but noticed you were pretty good at it.

Thanks!

Pretty grainey pic but I can fool around with it a little.
I think I got color pretty close but the flames just weren't turning out right...

Anyone else want to try the flames??

Bright red looks nice too
