The repop will be a pain to get it to meet up to the bolting positions to the repop quarter. It will never fit in there and be a nice joint, always looks buckled out there. Consider cutting off the flange where it meets to the quarter, and welding it on solid to the quarter. Worked out good for me, and spent alot less time F-ing with it. You can still get at the gas tank, bumper bolts, shackles doing it this way. Those parts are a little harder to get at, but still do-able. If you do it this way, make sure the shackles will come out, otherwise, there isnt much room to hammer on them with the vallence on.

That's exactly what happens, you can either have the top of the valance square with the bumper and a nice fit but the sides will be bulged out, or you can have the side joints nice but a big space between the bumper and valance, Challenger6pak  said there might be a quarterpanel aignment problem, thats true, I have all the pieces screwed together and was hoping to use the new valance to tie everything together so I could weld the outerwheelhouses, trunk extensions, trunk floor and quartersskins, but I really don't have anything to reference off of now, since I cut the original quarters off ! (lesson #1 don't cut anything off till your sure you won't need it) Anyway, this topic pretty much answered the basic mounting bracket question, and also shed new light on the reason for the valance looking like crap.

This post has been good for me also.  It looks like it may be a good idea to repair the original valances that came with my cars.

Thats what I am doing since I heard the Goodmark valances weren't to great, must have been before they upped there QC. However the questions being rasied aobut the fit with the repop quarters kindof worries me.   :dunno:

One of Katfish's original questions was about the availability of repop valence brackets, and I have the same question.  My car came in pieces, and these mounting brackets are not among the pieces I have!  :(

Does anyone know if the valence mounting brackets are available in the repop market anywhere?  (Mine is a 70 Challenger, and I'm using the Goodmark valence with dual exhaust cutouts, if it makes a difference)

Thank you in advance for any information you might have!

Tom,

I seriously doubt it. At least, it's something I have never seen.

When I go to Goodmarks site they show a 71-74 rear valance with the tag extension bracket on it.  Is that what you have?  Do you have a center mounting brace like the pic I posted on page 1?  If you do you will not need the separate brackets.  The brackets are only needed for the 70 style rear valance.

Oh...Maybe I missed something then.   :-[

Yes, the Goodmark piece has that V-shaped bracket in the center (like your picture).
So then the valence is only connected by the V-shaped bracket and the bolts at the bottom of the quarters?

If so, then I'm all set (...although my car is not correct for a 70, at least the valence will be connected!)

Thanks!

Yes, that is correct.  The center bracket will be hid by your tag so the look is the same without careful inspection.  If you have the tag extension remove it.  If you don't your tag will be out too far for the tag light to shine on it.  Your tag light will shine on the tag extension bracket.
