The stripe was first. This is taking in to account that someone has painted their car and now wants to detail or finish it.  In 1990 the level of restorations was not as high or as critical as we try to do things today.

6pak:  That wasn't a crack against us engineers, was it?   :roflsmiley:

I'll certainly post pictures once the stripe is painted.

Now, about that 12 second Omni in that magazine...That sounds interesting.   ;)

Guys,

I'm not shure what you are after but I tell you my experience on the stripe.
The stencil is designed to paint color of the stripe first, than apply the stencil and apply regular body color. My painter wanted to use a sealer on the sanded primer but this gives a narrow window to apply a top coat. We decided to paint the car color so we had no issues with the sealer and then masked off the stripe. We had plenty of time to mask on the basecoat compared to the sealer. After the stripe is applied to the car and on top of the color, we clearcoated over everthing. There was a visable step from the diferences if paint thickness but after the paint was baked, we sanded the strip area flat, being careful not to break through the clear, then recleared. The end result was a nice flat level surface with no edges or raised paint for polish and wax to stick to.

Challenger6pak,

Not to make this any more unclear, but those pictures you posted are interesting. I noticed in the first picture, the 8K tach is nothing like they put in the real cars. So maybe these are concept photos? Yep, the mystery continues. I'm glad my car didn't have a bumble-bee stripe.  Good luck guys, but I think you have to do what looks good to your eyes.

I'm sure they were early concept photos.  If you will notice the door panel does not have the wood grain insert.  Many early Challengers came that way.  Also the Challenger with the bee stripe appears to have the S/E finish panel painted black on the back of it.
