pistol grip shifter removal--can someone help me?
« on: January 25, 2007 - 07:19:35 PM »
I wanna install my pistol grip and boot tomorrow morning. But I have never taken the slide out ones apart. Can anybody give me a lesson on how it's done. I'm going to mount the shifter to the trans first. I think it may be more stable that way to do. The trans is in the car.Treat me like dummy 101 and assume nothing.
Also when the shifter goes back in, will it fit snug again? There is no wobble in it now :2thumbs:

Service manual says to use a .010" feeler gauge  as a tool to release the spring clip. Slide the feeler gauge between the shifter handle and the clip on the drivers side, then pull up on the shifter

Oh boy, thanks a bunch guys, looks simple enough. That is one thing on my list of things to do tomorrow. Barry, the picture really helped. And thanks to both of you

the lock tab could be on either side , use a good lube to make it easier to slide the feeler guage in beside the stick
, penetrating oil or something similar works great
