N94 70 R/T??
« on: January 31, 2007 - 07:45:50 PM »
Just bought a 70 R/T recently and found it strange that the antenna was mounted on the passenger quarter, no mounting hole on the fender and a sport hood.  Everything appears completely original.  After doing some research I thought it was an N94 car that never received its glass hood for sure.  Dont have a build sheet to prove it.  Salvaged the #'s off the fender tag and shows no N94 code.  Would that code only be found on the broadcast sheet?  Is there any other reason for this?  Could this car be special or just a meaningless quirk?

N94 hoods were available as a seperate option on non-T/A cars, but it would appear on the fender tag.

Is there a radio code on your tag?

OK, next step. Can you take a picture of the antenna hole in your rear quarter panel (antenna removed) and post the photo?

Here is the best pic I have right now.  Not sure its what you need.  I can snap a better one tomorrow if needed.  There's also a shot of the front shock tower.  Have you ever seen those lamps mounted above the control arm.  I've yet to ever see a picture of those.  Bye the way,  this is what happens to a car when you sand off most of the paint, park it in a damp garage for 18 years, and pile junk all over it.  Bet this car is glad to see me.  Gives new meaning to garage kept.

OK, that helps for sure. The antenna hole is to far back to be in the factory location.

The lights must have been added at some point as well.

Oh well.  Guess it was nice to dream for a moment.  Now I can turn my dreams and efforts to the cars resurrection.  Time to get that body ready for the 440 and complete six pack setup I got in the deal.  Thanks for the info, Barry.  Much appreciated.  Will keep everyone posted on the progress!!

Back in the late 60 to mid 70s it was quite common to mount lights there and in the rear so the light would shine through the mag spokes at night. I always though it look stupid but a lot of kids did it.

...several cars here did that in the late sixties...not common, but not uncommon either

Sorry for the question, but what does the antenna location have to do with whether it's an N94 car or not?

I believe that the fiberglass hoods on the T/A's didn't dampen RF signals well enough and caused noise through the stereo.  Thats why the T/A's moved the antenna to the rear.  I would assume a car optioned for the fiberglass hood would also have relocated the antenna, but I could be wrong.

I have seen photos of two of the five known N94 hood Challengers (non-T/As) with the N94 hood, and those two had the antenna on the front fender. Not sure why though.......  :dunno:
