The 409 was from a transam late 70's early 80's. Any of you guys remember that engine I belieive it was an oldmobile motor used in those transams.

Those were 403ci engines.  409s were in early 60's Chevies, etc...  :cheers:

Hmmmm.....  I dunno?  :dunno:  Good question.

There is a phrase in the lyrics that go "My four speed dual quad posi-traction 409". 

Posi-traction is a GM term, or else they couldn't fit "Traction-Lok" into the song?  :roflsmiley:

I knew it was a 40 sumtin or other. It did have power but it wasn't like one of those old mopar hp big blocks.

You could get a 406 V-8 in early '60s Fords. They were available with 3x2 bbls. I'd have to look it up to verify, but I think the hp was 405.

I loved my '69 Charger R/T with 440. Put the petal on down some, not all they way otherwise you may sit in one spot for a second of two as you think about the next set of tires to use.... And just hang on. Now with that being said, there's a guy living around the corner from me, he's got a mostly original '71 RoadRunner with a 340 and 4 speed. As far as I know, the only thin that's not original on the car is the hood, don't ask, I don't know, but it's the correct style, it just says 383 instead of 340..... He says it's a blast to drive, he's rebuilt the motor and has a double pumper on there... Plus being a 4 speed, you don't have to worry about a torque converters stall speed. Whatever you decide on, good luck. I'd say it's a toss up. As you probably know, Chevy has there "350" and Ford has there "302" plus there new 4.6 in the Mustangs... Mopar has the "340" so...... Good luck, and have fun.

There's nothing like feeling 440 power!  them GM bigblocks you had aint got nothing on  a stock 440!  You put some good parts in that 440, 4 speed and a sure grip, OH HELL YES!!!  You just have to control the foot real good, so she won't get away from you!  It's so fun when a camero usually comes up beside my Cuda at the bottom of my post when I'm doing 55-60 and rev their engine, then I step into the pedal, break the back tires loose, smoke em a few seconds and show them Mopar taillights.  Man I get off on it, there's NOTHING like it!!!!

The 409 in the song is a reference to The 61 or 2 Impala. It was one of my early favorites. I had an uncle that got killed on a motorcycle( hit by a drunk). I wound up with some of his car books when I was about eight. One of them was a book on the car. It became a favorite along with other late 50's early 60's big chevs. They are super rare today. Of course that was before I found out about how cool Mopars are.
