Manual steering gear "lube"
« on: January 26, 2007 - 03:54:50 PM »
OK - I'm putting in a used manual steering gear box.
An E-bay item, even though it looked good I decided to take it apart to verify everything would be good.
Indeed the insides look great, no wear on bearing sufaces and all teeth inside look good.

Now I want to replace the "grease" that was in it.

I've heard a few schools of thought what to use and what NOT to use.

Can anyone give me a solid answer - what to use?
I've heard use CV grease - I've heard use 80-90 gear oil - I've heard DON'T use lithium grease.

Any help??
Thanks again guys

Service manual says" Use steering gear lubricant, if not avail. a good grade of muliti purpose lubricant NOT gear lube.

synthetic grease would probably be the best option now
