I think Im dreaming
« on: January 31, 2007 - 09:07:16 PM »
So I drove by the local auto body place the other day, and I decided to drop in and talk about a paint job for S's and G's.  I talked to the guy a while, and just asked him for a stab in the dark for a price.  He said $8 to $10k.  I figured that wasnt too dang bad for a very reputable paint shop.

Here comes the funny part

So my dad had to travel up about an hour north of where we live.  My mom's uncle lives up by where we had to go, and he stopped in to see him.  My mom's uncle is 60 something years old, and has been an autobody man, and painted muscle cars for decades.  He told my dad that he wanted to retire soon.  So, for the heck of it, my dad asked him what it would cost to do the bodywork and paint my car if I got the entire thing stripped, and bought the two patch panels I need.  He wanted to know if I wanted clearcoat or poly, my dad said poly.  Here's the kicker, his answer was, "Oh I suppose it would take about $1500 for body work and paint plus all supplies."

I almost died when my dad told me that   :faint:

I'm going to call him back in a few days when he has a real estimate made up.  It seems like I may be getting my car painted a LOT sooner than I expected.  Now, where is that extra money I need...

This is for real, I will let you guys know what he quotes me.   :woo:

I got a great deal on my body work and paint. I think we probally have 3-4k in it. I don't think I will ever have a 10k paintjob. I think I would be afraid to drive it.

I wouldn't want to tell anyone what my Challenger's paint job cost. It goes to show that you can still find a great price.
