tracking down a car
« on: February 18, 2007 - 02:35:26 PM »
Is it possible to track down a car by its VIN?  I just found in an old photo album, the window sticker off my moms challenger she bought back in 70'.  Wondered if there was some way to find out where its been or where it is?

I have tried to find out about my car with a CA registration and the DMV out there will tell me nothing.

I found my car without the VIN just a name of a previous owner. Granted the car never left the state which made it easier, but non the less it can be done. I got pretty lucky with my car I tracked its current location with a previous owners name, and then secured copies of all the titles since new even the one from Dodge. After that I was able to get the original owners name and HAM handle and was able to track him down on the FCC site.

Good Luck

Can you post or email me with the VIN? I can check my records for you.

I think it partly depends on what state you are in.  It seems some states keep records longer.

  :iagree:

My DMV had to dig through piles of old micro films to find my info. It was nice that the only two ladies that work in the records department to do this for me.  :worshippy

Tracking it down is frustrating and fun at the same time.I tracked this down, and it all started with someone mentioning they remembered a purple challenger vert from 20 plus years earlier.I have been writing a story about the search, and find of it.
