Challenger Front Valence Molding

 I plan to locate a used 72-74 molding to see if it will mount on my 70 front valence. If it does they can be obtained for a fraction of the cost of the two-piece 70 molding while looking just as good on a driver. Has anyone tried this?

  Being 'tupid back in the day, I tried this. It didn't go well for me.  It just didn't fit right. On the other hand, I remember someone on here saying they got theirs to fit well(maybe ROBB). I know the 72-74 moldings are heaps cheaper, but even they don't come around often. I know... I didn't help you out any. Sorry.

Russ, I'm pretty sure I saw the 2-pc trim being reproduced but was unable to find again. I will keep an eye pealed for this.

How bad is yours, maybe spend your $s having it restored.     Can't you just do without this piece anyway?

Rusty, here we go again.  LOL.  I believe there is more "meat" for mounting provision on the 72 up front valance than the 70-71 front valance.  I will pull out a couple and look tomorrow.  The 72 molding may not work on the 70 valance.  Before I get rid of all these parts I need to photograph the differences anyway.

How bad is yours, maybe spend your $s having it restored.     Can't you just do without this piece anyway? 

I was able to score a decent set last year through ebay and would like to have something up there. That's the reason i was curious about using the later valence molding. If it doesn't work out, i plan to go without the valence moldings, as well as the wheel opening moldings, until after the car is done then have the used 1970 pieces i've accumulated restored. It'll cost a few extra ducats but that's ok

I remember the 72-74 molding having a deeper mount area - just not sure how compatable would be with my 70 valence. I did try a test fit with the used original 70 valence moldings and it was very nice. Thanks man

I thought I saw an ad in Mopar Muscle 4 -5 months ago about the '70 Challenger front valence molding. I believe it was PG Classics that was re-popping these pieces. Haven't seen them advertised lately though. Maybe their website has them. I'd also be curious about this molding, as I could use one too. Mine's probably saveable, but depends how much it'll cost.

I thought all Challenger valences were the same.

There are a few differences between 70, 71 & 72 -74 front valance pan.  The 72 - 74 has mounts added on the 3 brackets that attach it to the car. These are for the lower grille piece.  There are 2 mounting provisions added to the front lip of the pan also. Other mounting holes, for the molding, were just enlarged on the 72 - 74  pan. The orange pan is a 70, 71; the other a 72-74. You could mount the newer molding on the 70 - 71 pan.  You would have to add mounts to mount anything else.  For a stock look a 72 - 74 pan could be used on any Challenger.  A 70 - 71 would work the best on a 70 or 71 Challenger.
