1971 Challenger info
« on: November 15, 2003 - 08:41:55 PM »
Hi,
I'm a 1:18 diecast collector and I'm actually modifying an ERTL model into a 71 Challenger Indy Pace Car.   In fact, I've already did one (if you want, take a look: http://fr.ca.msnusers.com/11871ChallengerIndyPaceCar/shoebox.msnw?albumlist=2 ) but now I'm working to make a more detailed one.
I've got a lot of info from the "Challenger & Barracuda restoration guide" but there's nothing in that guide about the routing of the brake and gas line.  If those lines are visible under the 1:1 71 Challenger, I would like to replicate them on my 1:18.  Any info would be much appreciated (link for pics, details, ...)
TIA
Luc

The main gas line runs through the front cross frame along the right side rocker panel up into the lower part of the rear well exiting about the center of the well to a cross member and over to the gas tank.

The brake line for the rear goes thro the same cross member but on the left side. It follows the the rocker panel to the rear well area and cuts back to the rear axle where it connects to the splitter and then goes to the rear brakes right and left.

The emerg also goes thro the center cross member towards the left side. It connects to a cable there which is connected to tightener then splits and goes to the rear brakes.

Sorry I don't have any pictures.

Hey leg340,
There is no 1:18 convert Challenger actually.  There's a diecast shop that modified some HT by cutting out the top: go to that link:
http://www.backyardconversions.com/
Or you can do as I did and use a Dremel tool to cut the top yourself from the following model - see the pic:
http://www.supercar1.com/cart/CarDetail.asp?item_id=650&item_id=&item_number=&name=1971+challenger&
That model seem OK for you because it's a R/T with the right hood, black interior and no rear spoiler.  But you will have to repaint it and get the stripes.  For the frame around the wind shield, we use Bare metal foil to give the chrome look.

One last thing, actually, the E-Body are only done by ERTL (RC2), but soon, there will be nicer one from Highway61.  Here's some pics of the Cuda.  The Challenger will be next.

And click on the Photos spread link.
If you have other question, don't hesitate.
