72 electronic ignition
« on: February 21, 2007 - 12:36:20 PM »
On a 72 challenger I have, I need to know how the wires are run, and the right voltage at different places so I can crank my car which has sat awhile.  I got the car from a friend, good lord! what a wireing job he did!  I knew this stuff before a lot of memory got beat out of me due to a head injury.  It's really just blocked, I just need help re-remembering it.  A diagram would help, need to know how the wires run from the ballast resistor, coil, ignition module, and distributer.  Need to know which wires run form the ign. sw. and which are constant 12v, if any.  My ballast resistor has 4 lugs on it, what wires go on them and where do they go to.  Also, what is the output voltage of the resistor?  Does the out wire on the resistor go straight to the coil, or through the ign. module?  Please help, really need it!  Thanks.

I scanned this for you. 12 volts into the ballast, should leave you around 10-ish going into the coil.

Thanks, the connector on the left w5 wires is the one that plugs into ign. module, right.
It shows another wire from ign. sw. running to top lug on the resistor where the coil power scource is, is that at the start position, to give the coil 12v when the key is turned to start the car?

Thanks Mike and Bullitt, I appreciate good people that help me rebuild my memory, yall helped me a lot.  I sure appreciate the diagrams too, as I am unable to go to my own shop where my manuals are for now, sure hope I can go back to my shop soon!

Thanks again
