Removeal of Master Brake Cylinder
« on: March 04, 2007 - 02:11:06 PM »
:working:  Is there some special trick to remove the Master Brake Cylinder.   I removed the two nuts that sit above the cylinder.  I disconnected the front and back brake lines.  This thing should come straight off, correct.  Please advise.

Did you disconnect the pushrod that attaches to the brake pedal inside the car

:iagree: Best way to disconnect it with the m/c in the car is to pop up on the brake pedal. You will need a new retaining gromment (magnumhp.com has them).

the pushrod is held into the back of the master by a small rubber grommet, it will need to be pryed apart if you are repalcing the maser

Unless your car has one of the recent conversion kits that uses a new 2 bolt flange master cylinder, your master cylinder should have 4 nuts holding it on the booster or firewall, 2 near the top of the flange and 2 near the bottom.  If you have manual brakes you need to disconnect the pushrod from the brake pedal, but you can wait until you get the master cylinder removed from the car before you wrestle with getting the pushrod removed from the piston.

Thanks all, I will diconnect the pushrod to the brake pedal.  That means climbing up under this  :swear: dash again. :pullinghair: The only reason why I'm removing the m/c is to get to one bolt for the steering column.  The nut that is welded to the firewall broke and I bent the bolt while trying to take it out.  So now it just spends around. Just one bolt is keeping me from removing the steering column. :swear:
