Speedometer Gear Change for a 4 speed?
« on: June 15, 2007 - 07:55:38 PM »
How do I change the speedo gear in the 4 speed in my Cuda?  I ordered the correct one from brewers performance  and I plan to change it tomorrow as well as the speedometer cable.

Jack up the rear of the car , & remove the housing with the forked clamp holding it in place , you will probably satill need a drain pan to catch fluid , install new gear & reinsert housing making SURE it is clocked / rotated to align properly , reinstall lost fluid

Chryco, thanks for the advice but I don't understand  what the "forked clamp" is. Is this some sort of clamp that holds the speedometer gear inside the tailshaft?

yea "forked clamp"...looks & works kindof like a distributor hold down clamp.

   :iagree:

Yep, just one bolt holding it in place. It "forks" over the housing for the speedo gear.

I got it in today.  Yay for an accurate speedo!  3,000 rpm at 55mph.
