SE owners help....SE Headliner Glue?
« on: March 03, 2007 - 10:31:41 PM »
My headliner/overhead console is in good shape.
I've noticed some areas around the edges though like by the shoulder straps above the door
where the "felt" material is coming loose.
What's the proper way to fix this?  :dunno:

I sure don't want to screw it up.

When I worked at the bodyshop, we use to use a hypodermic needle and crazy glue. :dunno:

I used the aerosol headliner glue you can buy at any local auto store. Just spray the cardboard and apply the felt to it. Dont spray on too much or else it will soak through and leave spots. I did my headliner a couple years ago and it hasnt come apart since. Also, make sure to work the bubbles out while you are redoing it  Other then that, it was pretty straight forward.

I still have to do my headliner.  A local guy can order the material for me and it will have a very thin foam backing.  The trick to gluing and getting a good appearance is of course use a good glue and working out the bubbles to use a beach ball so as to not put too much pressure and force the glue thur the fabric. Just roll it around with a little pressure and you got it.

I used the 3M Super Weatherstrip adhesive in the spray can. It's the only stuff I've found that doesn't soften and turn loose in the heat, and the interior of a closed car can get pretty hot here in the desert in the summer!
