DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT GAUGE?!?!?!

Goody posted above the part numbers for the Phantom Autometer Chrysler gas gauge.  If you don't have the right one, it will never work right.

Check here to see that you have the right gauge.

Stroker - it sounds very much like the sender. Also make real sure the ground is absolutely perfect on to the frame for these tests. The slightest bit of resistance (read rust, crap etc) can cause a low current draw (such as a gas guage) to not work. You may have damaged the sender when installing it or you could have damaged the float which would make it sink and read way less when you put the fuel in the tank. Think of a small dinghy sinking - it just goes below the waterline and stays put.

Just wanted to put my 2c in..........You have a sending unit that was originally  set up with a 1/4" return line.  This was used with the 440 and 426.  What engine do you have?  I purchased the correct ground strap and the pics show how I attached it. I haven't hooked my wiring back up yet so I don't know if mine even works.  Good luck.  David

Your test leads should be in the center and right hole at the bottom. Also, the dial should be pointing at the "200" at the bottom. That is the 200 ohm range, meaning it will read anything less than that.
