How rare an option is this? Got some pics!!!
« on: March 12, 2007 - 06:20:07 AM »
I'm hearing a story of a 71 Challey... with no radio in the dash.... Not radio delete/block off plate-but dash moulded for no radio??? With a "portable" transister radio mounted underneath that you can carry with you. I know AMC had something like this long ago but Mopar? I know Mopar had a record player! This seems like a question maybe Barry would have an answer too.....?  :1zhelp:

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

The radio delete plate is not a "block off plate" or some such animal, but just a standard radio bezel face plate with no hole, just a complete smooth face in black.

I have never even heard of such a thing as a small transistor radio that was detachable from the factory...I've been into these cars since 1974, owned too many than i care to remember, never seen or heard of that.

Does the car have an antenna? What's the code on the fender tag?

I do not have much 1971 data, but for 1970 cars I have seen a fair number of cars with no radio. You can see some of the 1970 radio info I have in this article;

I did a Google search and Ebay had one for sale before but since the auction is over I couldn't pull up the info but on the Google search page it said,

"1950 - 1960 SPORTAMATIC IN DASH & PORTABLE CAR RADIO" .
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.
