Rocker to Spring Clearance
« on: March 13, 2007 - 03:59:14 PM »
A couple of questions ??? How far should the rocker be able to lift before it hits the spring ??? some rockers lift higher than the others but on the smallest one the roller tip on the rocker clears the top of the spring by a 1/2" before the rocker bumps up against the spring...(of course no push rods are in yet) I imagine that is plenty of clearance as the rocker tip wont really go but .018 above the retainer cause of valve lash setting ???

Also how loose should the rockers be in between the shims/shafts etc...I can move them by hand pretty easy and some just fall on their own when I lift them up ???

thx to all!

as long as the rocker will not touch the spring through the normal range of travel ther eis nothing to worry about , lifting th erocker above the valve tip is excessive & not in the normal range oif travel
side spacing on the rockers would vary with the material the rocker is made of , iron or stainless rockers will not Grow with heat so the clearance can be relatively tight posiibly as low as .004 but alum needs more like .010 minimum as it expands more

Not sure if I understand that right..but..the rocker should be closest to the retainer/spring edge when the cam is on it's base circle. Until the pusrods are in it (or checking pushrods, whichver) you really cant see what it will do. I like at least .040 at the tightest point, because things do move around when it's running hard.
