Back in the 1990's when I was a poor college student:
1966 Shelby GT-350H (real deal) but missing engine $1800 (in 1992, owner thought it was a regular fastback)
1970 Cuda 440 U-code sublime/black top, billboards, pristine $9K (1994)
1959 Impala 2-door sport coupe, red/white $5K (I passed on this and got a IROC-Z 5.7 instead)
But the one.....that got me.....a green '70 Charger R/T 4-speed in decent shape, running. Owner wanted 3K for it (this was 1998)
By the time I graduated and got a real job, all the great finds were gone. Here in Sacramento, there's alot of lore about nice cars being plucked by collectors all over the world here over the years. Now its all Toyotas and Kias, sprinkled with Tahoes/Silverados.
There's still hope. Rumor has it from several local Moparists there's a '70 plum hemicuda in a nearby town. Complete car, just sits rotting away in a carport on a field. Owner is a redneck who hates being asked about it and keeps pitbulls in his yard.
They are still out there, just far and few in between and much harder to find.
But hey whats this, I see a '69 or '70 Charger 500 sitting a couple blocks away from my house? Noticed it a few weeks ago. Looks all original and need of some TLC. Even though I doubt the owner will sell, its nice to see a car like that nearby.
