A/C and heater questions
« on: March 14, 2007 - 08:40:20 PM »
Hi All,

I have a couple questions that I hope you can help me out with.

1). I have '73 Cuda - with factory air con. Is this considered to be a manual or automatic system?

2). I have been working on the heater/airbox vanes and was wondering what supplies the "suction" to drive all these valves? Is it engine driven or electric? Where is this device that drives this?

Sorry for the seemingly simple questions but I am yet to get a manual... but I have ordered it!

Thanks bullitt99.

Now, can anyone tell me where it goes on 340? Has anyone got a picture or diagram of where the piping feeds to?

Cheers, Ed.

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me what is connected to each of the three nipples on the ported vacuum switch?

Cheers, Ed.

Ed, It appears I gave you BAD info on the purpose of the ported vacuum switch. It is part of the pollution control system used on some models. My '73 340 does not have A/C but there is a plug in the intake manifold just behind a heater hose pipe & beside the thermostat housing on the passenger side where illustrations in my service manual show it would go. Plumbing is bottom to manifold vacuum which I believe comes from the pipe that supplies the power brake booster, middle to the distributor advance, top to OSAC valve which is mounted on the passenger side firewall.
I have reviewed the manual and A/C vacuum source is never identified but it may have been a tee off the manifold vacuum or another port on the brake booster pipe. I say this because there is a drawing of a brake booster pipe with multiple ports.

Hopefully someone with an original A/C car can clarify this for you.

Hi bullitt99,

I just received my manual and spent 2-3 hours trying to find out where the AC/Heater gets the vacuum from. I have no idea.
I will open another post with a more specific heading.

Thanks for your help.
