With the dash pad off, grind the old rivets off from the back. If you have replacement rivets, all you have to do is use a good pop rivet gun to reattach. Put a small piece of tape on the pop rivet gun head though, to prevent scratches to the  plate. It'll take you longer to get your stuff together for this, than it will to grind off, then reattach.
So far as the removal of the pad, my car is a Barracuda and that process is described somewhere back in the archives, maybe 2 months ago. Don't know about your car specifically, but it shouldn't be that much different (I may be talking out my butt on that though.....).

I have no idea as to tell you how to get there, but I started a thread on Feb 10, 2006, about this subject for my cuda dash and dash pad. It hung around for some time and has the whole process laid out pretty well as it progressed.
Good luck in finding it and sorry I can't do that for you.........

I have the pad off,in fact the entire car is disassembled. Where do I get the correct rivets? Does anyone restore the VIN tag? Mine is pretty ratty.I could paint it but what do you do about the Chrysler Corp.on it?

I drive the ball out of the original rivit & sqeeze the rivet closed again so all I have to do is use a new pop rivit pin in the original rivit to re-install it

You can get a decal, or maybe it's called a transfer, to put on top of your VIN tag after it's all painted up / restored. I also needed to get that transfer for my VIN, got it from Performance Graphics. As I recall, I had to send them a rubbing of the VIN and / or fender tag , also a copy of the title, before they would send me the transfer. Their # is 850-878-1450.

How fancy Chryco.  I like that idea.  I will have to remember this for when I do my dash next winter.

I used a small punch to get the ball out and them a punch the size of the rivet  with a small hammer and some patients to get the rivets out.It was actually pretty easy.I got some new rivets and pulled the pin part out to use with my originals when the new pad comes.

Speaking of dash pads I ordered one from Ultimate Rides.I am kind of holding my breath on this.I did a lot of checking and most feedback on them is positive but not all.Just Dashes would have cost me about 325.00 more.I had them do the dash on my 72 Road Runner last year and it is very nice but it was a lot cheaper than what the want to do the Challenger.Ultimate Rides said they would guarantee my satisfaction.I will post my opinion after I receive it.
