Removing 8-3/4 Axles
«

I have to be doing something wrong here. Im trying to remove the axles from an 8-3/4 rear from a 65 coronet that i got the other day and they dont wanna come out. I removed the 5 nuts that hold them to the housing and they only move like 1/16th of an inch....am i missing something or is there maybe something wrong with the splines that could be holding them in?
?

you May need a slide hammmer , up to 64 they were pressed in yours could be an early production or the diff could have been switched at some point , is there a nut in the end of the axle ?

I dont think there was a nut on the end of the axle, but Im going to double check tonight. Im hoping giving it a little slide hammer persuasion might do the trick. I really hope I didnt buy one of the older 8-3/4s.

Axles were just too comfortable sitting in the same place since 1965...little slide hammer action did the trick. Thanks Chryco
