Okay looking for some good advice on engine Oil Pumps. Can anyone shed some light on high pressure verses low pressure oil pumps.  :clueless: Looks like most of the performance ones are at least high volume. Since I'm upgrading to a 7 qt pan and possibly remote dual filters I will have plenty of oil. Also can anyone explain to me how external oil systems work? Where or how does the system get its oil? I saw a milodon external system on summit mil-21110 Looks like the line gets attached to the housing then to the pickup? So where does the pickup go and how is it mounted? I'm guessing you would mount on the outside bottom of the oil pan?? That seems scary. So much to learn. I just read from a previous post that my oil pump is external. I didn't believe it so I went to the garage and looked and found something next to the oil filter. Looks like it could be the oil pump.  :wow: much easier to change than a GM. I was at the speed shop today picking up a carb that I had cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner and was bragging about this great web site. I showed the owner and he was impressed.

loww pressure uses a lower pressure by pass spring internally , high pressure uses a stiffer spring maintaining higher pressure , there uis also std & high volume , the high volume uses a taller rotor so ti moves more oil per rotation , external pick up uses a pick up inside the pan generally drilled through the outside wall of the pan sump with a large line or 2 to the oil pump instead of using the pick up tube inside the oil pan , this increases both crank clearance & the volume of oil that can be moved
The oil pump on a big block Mopar is in front of the left engine mount outside the oil pan & is easily accessed
