My car currently has 5/8 Napa heater hose on both the in and out.

From what I've seen, they should be mixed... one 1/2 and one 5/8. No?

I need to replace it all anyway since it's cut too short to route it correctly. I figured I might as well do it "correctly". :-)

Thanks.

the heater core porrbably has 5/8 for both , just change the fitting in the water pump so you can run 5/8" on both at the engine

Hummm...

That may have already been done.

I took a look at the fittings and I didn't see any of the bowing you'd expect with a larger diameter hose being clamped to too small of an outlet.

I'll double check.

Was both hoses being 5/8s something that was changed through the years, or is it just a remnent of my car's original 340 engine?

ie: did earlier Challengers all have 5/8 & 1/2 or did it vary by engine?

All '73 call for 1/2" and 5/8" hoses.  The water pump on a small block is for 1/2".   If the heater core is 5/8" on both....what....whats it out of?  I just changed mine and it was 1/2" and 5/8".

Car is a 73 Chally that originally came with a 340 4bbl.

It now has a 68s 440 in it.

Both lines are 5/8 and neither look like a 5/8 hose clamped to a smaller 1/2 inlet. I'm assuming a 25% difference would be noticible. No?

It wouldn't be the 1st hodge-podge thing I've had to undo on this car. :-)
