Just curious about how people feel about charging for there services. I had a guy stop buy the other day asking about body work, he has a 91 Buick  (EWWWWW) and asked me to replace a qtr panel.  Told him it would be about 400 to have it ready to paint. He looked totally baffled and dismayed   I mean it would cost me a hundre bucks just in materials plus 2 days of my "cuda time" plus i really am not that interested in doing it but could use some extra cash.  What do you think? 
Not to worry purple 1 we are going to get that trailer taken care of. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the worlds only E body trailer.

Theres alot of truth to that you know. years back when i was building decks and patios,if you bid a job in certian "high dollar" neighborhoods we would sometimes double or triple the bid.  If the bids were to low they client wouldnt even consider you.. Most of my work at the time was in Potomac, Avenal and North Bethesda.  Commom people like us can never afford to live there at the time average home prices were running in the 2-5 million range and that was 15 years ago.

Way too low, my friend with a charger under resto asked a guy how much to smooth out a pretty decent trunk lid, guy said can not do in metal work, filler & block, 2k, my friend is doing it himself!!!!!!!!!

People watch too many shows about car customizing/restoration/repair on TV - HorsepowerTV, Overhaulin', etc, and those shows always shrug off the body work - show a few seconds of it.  So people figure it "takes a few seconds."

I used to work for a restoration shop - I'd get people calling who'd want "frame off" restorations - new engines, new suspension, restored interior, paint, glass, etc, and then very calmly say "Yeah my budget is about 17 thousand."  I of course was not allowed to say "What are you, stupid?"

I love it when people say "Well hell the car isn't even worth that!"  Well then I guess you shouldn't have let it get so screwed up to begin with!

Yup. They think it's that easy. Nevermind the true art form of fabricating panels they are too cheap to buy. I do a lot of side jobs. But I find myself wanting to do body stuff less and less. I've had pro shops billing over $10K that "youwill have defects like that. You arent paying for a show paint job here..." I have better results on stuff getting painted in dirt lots. $400 seems a bit light even for a side job for this yutz.

I spoke with two different local guys (both have body shops of their own) about replacing both quarters on my 68 Dart. They both told me $400-$500 to get both quarters installed and ready for paint. Guess it depends on what part of the country you are in.
