Rearend width different?
« on: April 17, 2007 - 11:55:10 PM »
Changing my 7 1/4 to an 8 3/4.

Measuring from the outside of the flanges, I got about 56 3/4 on the 8 3/4 rear, but the 7 1/4 I took out was about 57 3/4  :clueless: :clueless:

I also had to slightly bend the brake lines to get them to fit because they were too wide.

I thought this was the original rear....maybe not.

Can someone measure the width of a 7 1/4 (outside flange to outside flange) and let me know what you get?

Thanks

Do you know if the 8 3/4 rear you are putting in is from a E-Body?

  Mike

Suppose to be an E-body rear, it has the correct dimensions, and fits on the springs perfectly.  It is suppose to be 56 3/4 wide, that is why I was confused about the width of the 7 1/4.

Thanks for the info, but I do not see anything about a 7 1/4 for the E-body.  I am not worried about my 8 3/4, I am just confused about the 7 1/4 I am taking out.  Why would it be a wider rear?   :clueless:

Ya,I know there is no info on an E-body 7 1/4 but the info on the link was very interesting, especially on the 741 stuff.

It's interesting because all the books I have including the Mopar Chassis book don't show a 7 1/4 for an E-body. :clueless:

:iagree:
I noticed the same thing.  I figured there would at least be some info, even if it was very little.   :dunno:
