Another ?,CaN i run stock 10-1 pistons on my 383 build with 915 heads and still run pump gas?Would i just use a different head gasket and what would the Comp be?if so which one?Its just easier for me to find cheaper hyper stock 10-1 pistons.
Thanks

I have been watching this debate with intrest,Chryco perhaps you could clear some things up for me also, I have a power braked 4 speed 3.55 rear challenger with a fresh 440 bored 40 over with stock ex manifolds and I am fitting a new 6pack setup,I am also thinking of Engle K58 with a lobe centre of 112 for street use,do think this would be a good set up? thanks.

looks like a good combo to me , I did a 440 +6 for a customer last year we used a Lunati solid cam , 112* CL & 1.6 ratio  rockers with if I remember right [ 238*@.050] & 586 lift { I can look it up tomorrow for sure , it idles like stock with a mild lope & simply Howls when you get on it , it made 315 RWHP on  a Mustang Dyno & correction to Gross hp is 1.6 so it has 520 gross HP which is 125 hp more then stock & still looks stock & uses the iron exhaust manifolds & stock 906 heads ported

Remind me fri & I will work out the math on your combo , with a true 9.8:1 compression & quench & some tweaking of the timing curve you should have no problem running this combo on pump gas

Thanks Chryco,I was actually referring to 10-1 pistons with 906's but using 915's so it would be around 10.8(ish)-1.Is there a head gasket that would bring it back closer to 10-1?My best choice is stock pistons from a 383-2 at 9.2-1 that would get me real close to 10-1 with 915's.I still have yet to find someone making the 383-2 pistons still, maybe i'll keep my eye out for some on EGAG.I sill may just bite the bullet and go with your recommended TRW L2315's fordged

a 10:1 piston @ 10.8 with closed chamber heads is too high for pump gas , using a thick head gasket to raise the head will lose the quench effect so that is not a good I dea , the best is to use the 9.8 compression piston with the closed chamber head , use a .035 thick head gasket & zero deck the block so the piston is .005 below deck  , this will max the compression for pump fuel & give you the quench to kill detonation

Just got off the phone with Chris at Engle Cams, I ordered the 'K58' to be custom ground at 112* on Chryco's suggestion.  Chris agreed that the 112* CL will be a good choice; adding more vacuum for my power accessories while smoothing the idle slightly, improving drivability.  Perfect for my set-up, thanks Chryco!

for example the Mopar .509 cam really has a choppy idle

:woohoo: Yeah but man oh man, it's sounds nice, I liked it, and hammer the throttle, and hang on, lol. :cooldancing:
