American Muscle Car
« on: April 27, 2007 - 08:22:03 AM »
Did anyone see American Muscle Car last night with the "The Fastest Musclecar Engines of All Time"? Of course the Hemi came out on top, but was that horsepower for real? It is on again tonight at 9:30 on Speedvision. It is very interesting. Let me know what you think.

If you want to know what I think read it here, I don't want to type it all over again

I haven't seen it and probably won't for sometime but after viewing the thread that Scott posted, 820hp seems somewhat "false" for a stock Hemi output. I agree with most that the Hemi would have won and the cards need not be stacked to achieve it. Can only imagine what the brand-X forums are saying and crying about. :-\

I agree with you Scott. The motors should all be built to stock. Then it would be interesting. To me the HP ratings were great and all but the true test was the 1/4 mile times or the track times. It was embarasing that the some motors (hemi)were built up I think it would have done fine on its own. Just my 2 cents.

Dick Landy said, and I quote, "I could get over 600hp out of a factory Hemi with proper tuning". This I can believe. Who else could tune a motor like Dick Landy. I would like to see them do a real comparison including factory exhaust manifolds. I don't like the decks stacked in our favor.

I saw the show and was also surpised to see that Hemi 800 + hp rating. All the other engines weren't even close. I never heard of a stock Hemi that had that much horse so that night I went online to see what the original Hemi was rated.
The original 426 was rated 425 hp for insurance purposes but I can't imagine it was 800 + in reality.

I believe that stock hemi makes 500-600 hp but 800?  :clueless: :faint:

Imagine...lets say a cuda that just came out of the factory with those little tires, bone stock suspension, and the transmision that can't handle 800 horsepower...and then have 800hp+ hemi in it? There is no chance to launch that thing on the street... :scared:
