Bad fuel pumps?
« on: April 30, 2007 - 09:22:08 PM »
I posted a thread here a few weeks ago asking for recommendations for mechanical fuel pumps. Everybody recommended Carter pumps and I was happy with that because my old pump was a Carter also, so it would be an easy swap. So, I order the Carter pump, installed it, but the car wouldn't run at all. I re-installed it twice to make sure the rod was making contact with the pump lever like it's supposed to. Still no luck. The car at least ran with the old pump. It just was starving for fuel under hard acceleration. So, I called Summit and they promptly sent me another one. Same problem with the second pump. So, I put the old pump back on and the car runs. I thought maybe I had a problem somewhere else in the fuel system, but if the car runs with the old pump, everything else must be ok. Right? WTF? Has anyone else ever had a problem like this. The old pump was also a Carter and the same part # as the new ones. What 's the chances of getting two bad pumps in a row? I sent both of them back to Summit and had them send me a Holley pump. It's gonna be a few weeks before I can get back home again to try it out though.
