One thing I noticed with your diet Moparal is there isn't very much protein in our breakfast, lunch and in your snack. If your body doesn't get enough protein you will lose muscle which is what you don't want to do.
Do you like eggs? Try this with breakfast,
Scramble up 3 egg whites(all protein) and one whole egg, then add one or two individual slices of kraft NON fat sharp cheddar cheese. You can delete the egg yoke and add one or two more egg whites. I usually eat it just like this.
You can add mushrooms, onions, or any other veggies, salsa, or spices you like, just no salt, but pepper works good.

For lunch and the snack, you might try adding a glass of milk, if you can drink it.
Supper looks good, other good meats are fish, (tunafish sandwiches too) turkey, next time you crave a hamburger, try turkey patties, even my kids loved these. In fact alot of meals you use hamburger for you can replace with turkey for a healthier choice. Any salad can be spiced up with some pieces of chicken (not fried of course)

Congratulations Al!

I have to stay away from caffiene, saturated fat, cholesterol, and salt. You are right, it sucks. But you learn to adjust. Drinking a lot of fluids helps you get rid of fat and flushes out your body. That's one of my problems. I don't get thirsty so I have to force myself to drink.

No-Salt contains potassium instead of sodium, and it tastes funny at first, but you get used to it. Just don't use too much because it is actually saltier than salt, so less is required, and it's good for you.

Egg beaters are good if you scramble them up with a lot of veggies like green peppers, mushrooms, etc. They also are high in protein.

You are lucky that you lost that much weight. I have always had a problem losing weight no matter what I eat or don't eat. Makes me sick watching some of my friends eat ten times what I eat, and they never get fat.

Just pay attention to the labels and adjust accordingly. No matter what you buy, there is always a healthier version out there, you just have to do some comparison shopping.

Just remember, your Challenger needs you.

Al, What a success story!   I know a lot of folks here wish they had your ability to stick to a diet.  No matter how "uninteresting" the food may be, I bet you like feeling your feet, and seeing them too!

Again, Awesome,

I can see everything now when I look down.   I also forgot to mention I eat boiled shrimp 2 times a week, broiled fish, 97% fat free beef jerky, some kind of cheedar cheese that is 2% and less fat. I just stumble through food trying a little this and a little that. My wife makes lobster stuffed mushrooms a certain way so as it is low in all the stuff for the most part.

Thanks for all the support guys. I'm enjoying it.

Way to go AL!  Keep at it.   The high blood sugar will kill everything starting with your toes.  I'm sure that you heard all that already.  They start cutting from the bottom and start moving up to the knees.  Going blind is scary too.   The diet and a little exercise is a small price to pay to keep your feet and sight.

I've been on a forced diet since about 2 years ago. I had similar problem: loss of vision in one eye and super high cholesterol.  It wasn't until I saw a retna specialist and he told me I was having TIA's in my right eye; basically mini strokes due to high cholesterol and high blood pressure.  So on the pills I went and diet and haven't had one since.  It's scary cause I'm only 33 and that happened 2 years ago.  Just goes to show you how you need to take care of your body and listen to it when it's acting funny.  I try my best to diet; I eat a lot of chicken and drink gatorade and other stuff too.  I did what one member suggested and went to low fat items, then non fat....I had a killer sweet tooth and now I can do without it.

Keep up the good work, your health is the important thing in your life.  :2thumbs:  That's how I view it anyhow, I do all this for my wife and kids, otherwise I probably would have never gone to the doctor to get checked out and probably would have had a massive stroke by now.

Way to go on your weight loss. You will amazed how much better you feel when you get to your target weight. When I became part of the Sheriff's department I made my mind up to lose some weight and get into shape. I did not want to be one of those cops you see that looks fat in a uniform. With a vest on it makes you look larger than you are anyway. I started at 267 and a waist of 44. Today I am down to 242 and a waist of 38. My goal weight is 220 and a waist of maybe 34. Now I will starting lifting weights again for the first time in 20 years.
Keep up the good work.

Sounds like you have your own success story too.  Today I weighed out at 223. I sent the wife out to buy me a pair of 34" waist jeans, and they went right on and had some room too. At 50 plus yrs old, I frown on lifting weights. I used to do that and dont feel like having alll the muscle tone again. I can still bench 320, thats good enough for me. The road I live on is a half mile long. I walk it 1 mile a day now. All this stuff is just boring to me, but I know I needed to do it.

I think if I quit working 16 hrs a day, I might feel better and not so sore.
But if you are doing stuff and happy at what you do, it doesnt seem like work, so I figure it really doesnt count. Just getting old and tired and slow.

I am having trouble sleeping at night tho. My legs will not quit moving. My feet too. I usually end up passing out at around 2am and up at 6am or 7am.  If my legs and feet would relax a bit, I feel I could get some sleep and feel better. But it all hurts down into the marrow. Everything. Been doing this for about a year now.

I guess it sucks just growing old.

I wonder if it's something tied to the diabetes or is it Restless Leg Syndrome?  :clueless:

Maybe a warm bath or massage before bed might relax the leg muscles.  :dunno:

Hey man that is great news, I wish I could get some of my Soldiers to follow that regieme LOL!!!  My bad on my first post in here, I just kinda skimed the title and went to posting.  That is great news on the weightloss.  Make sure you do some type of exercise to help off set body shock that comes with loosing that much weight in a short period of time.  If you maybe take a half hour walk after dinner it will help keep the weight from coming back so quickly when you hit your goal.

Al,

May I ask how tall you are? At your weight, and getting into 34 pants is awesome!! Benching 340 pounds... Umm, let's just say that's a tad out of my range.  :-[ I'm a runner with less than 10% body fat, but I can't bench my 206 pounds.  :eek4:  You are doing well!!  :2thumbs:

I am 6'3.  I was active in sports when I was young. I trained for the Detroit tigers in 69, 70 and 71, In Gowen Mi. Michigan state gave me a scholar ship as well for track n field cross country.  Denny Mclaine showed me how to throw sliders and knuckle balls.

Oh to be young again
