Hey Barry,

My brother in law has a 70 R/T-SE that is optioned with a front rubber bumper. How rare is it for Challengers to have rubber bumpers? I have never seen a rubber bumpere Challenger in the flesh. Is there a percentage that can be quoted for front and front/rear? Thanks for any help,

Brett

Hey Brett,
The rubber bumpers were not available on 1970 Challengers. They were supposed to be available initially, but for some reason it did not happen until the 1971 model year. If you see the A21 code on the fender tag on the second line up from the bottom, it is actually the scheduled production date of October, 21 1969. (1970 model year)

The Yellow Jacket / Diamante would be the only exception that I am aware of;

But it was built as a show car, so the bumper was not added on the assembly line.

OK that will be a buzzkill for him I bet  :eek4:  We had decoded the data plate back in the 80's and were excited that it came with a front rubber bumper. I guess that explains why it was missing and had a plain chrome bumper. We had thought someone took it off before he bought it. Thanks so much for the help Barry. Only 71 Challengers had rubber bumpers then? I wonder why Dodge did not make more shaker hood and rubber bumper Challengers as compared to 'Cudas. I love the way 'Cuda rubber bumpers seem to "flow" into the body but the Challenger bumpers although neat just do not have the same visual impact IMO.
