Throttle return spring
« on: May 01, 2007 - 09:08:30 PM »
Can someone post their throttle return spring installed on their car. Mine lately is getting jammed with the throttle mechanism and is getting locked into opening my throttle when I start my car sometimes. (not a good thing) I have a holley 750 and it seems to be the spring is to streched out too much so I'd like a pick of one thats working normally. I am not a mechanic obviously so I like to do what I can when I can so a pick would help. I just want to see if the longer part of spring faces throttle mechanism or faces bolt on engine.  Thanks in advance.

you need a 20-7 throttle link & the factory throttle pin so the spring can hook on the pin & pivot freely

For one thing you need some clips and washers to "guide" your kickdown rod a little tighter.

That's a ford holley carb you got on there isn't it? I see the ford kick down on it. Looks as if you tighten everything up and put it line and install the washers as was posted, it will do fine. The pivot hight has to be close to correct and not over centered though or it will not be able to return back without a bind. And remember that a heavier spring might fix that problem, but will cause throttle shaft wear and then you end up with vacuum leaks and other problems you dont want.

I ordered a new throttle spring to see if it helps but its a stock one.  I'll see if I can line it up a little better. I am not a mechanic but I'll try to fix something if I think it won't do more harm than good by me trying...
Its a holly performance carb duel feed not sure 650m or 750 I never looked up the part number on it. Thanks for the help fellas.
