Got 'er Done!
« on: May 12, 2007 - 11:32:32 PM »
Well it's been kind of a long but worthwhile day. First I gotta thank my great friend Donny and his nephew Tony for helping out today!!  :2thumbs:  :2thumbs:  :2thumbs: I figured I'd post some pics and give my  :2cents: :2cents: (as usual) so if any body else wants to do this you got a  insite. It's not that hard to do  :clapping: Secondly Kudo's again to SSBC!!!!!!!!  :woohoo: We did not have to do any altering/grinding/drilling /hammering on the brake kit. Everything is of good quality and fits the first time! The only thing I din't feel sure of was that we had to run the brake hose between the spindle and the shock. But after it was together it made sense.

Now here's a important tip from BIG. Dont make a BIG mistake, alltho all the brakes and hoses on this car were new anyway.... I strongly advise you get new brake lines (the Right Stuff has them). The majority of our time were spent jaggin with lines that looked good but we couldn't get the fittings to spin free.  :swear: We had to redo the ends that met the hoses and the end that meets the proportioning valve that goes back to the rear! I think we spent more time on this than installing the kit  :banghead: (and we had the right tools).

Anyway we unpacked the kit to do a little inventory. All good!  We gave the young guy with the good back the underdash work!  :working: We were kinda lazy... we left the shaker on! (even tho I don't have the new grills in it yet.) The calipers mount to a thick plate that lines up perfect. I went with the slotted rotors.Early Mustang style 4 piston calipers, so they are not "free floating". Then we mounted and balanced those "275 BFG'S" And put them on the rear/moved the 245'S to the front. Thank you NZ!!! They fit PERFECT with those 15X8 ralleys!!  After a few small adjustments time to go home. NIKKI stops on a dime!!  :ylsuper:

65MPH, at about 3800 RPM... I'll guess a 3:55 rear?   :dunno:

That's good to hear everything went smoothly as far as the kit is concerned.  It must be a good feeling knowing you can stop on a dime now.

Let's see, 275/60 tire on rear that approx. 89" round, 66mph@3750rpm, you must have a 4.10 gear?

With a 28" tire and 4.56 gears in a manual, the RPM should be around 3,556 at 65mph.  With an automatic there will be a little extra RPM beacuse of the converter, so 4.56 sounds about right to me.

BUT we do not know the stall of the converter, so if it stalls at 3500+RPM, there could be a different gear.   :dunno:

(MPH x Rear Gear x 336) / Tire Dia. = RPM    This works for a maunal, but you must add a 200-300 RPM for an auto.

Hi guys..ok first things first

scf100... manual brakes. We let the kid unbolt the master and the pedal. My back just wont take it any more.  :nono:

jvike... I had 245's on the rear w 15X7's they are now on the front

mek/vinb/jacks... was doing about 66/67 at time of pic. Yes the rpm's are up there for sure. All the times I've had this car in the air doin other things and I've never spun it to figure out a gear ratio. It is a 489 case but whats in side???? I will say shes real quick off the line, but I'm obviously pretty up into the R's at hwy speeds. I would guess a minimum of 3.73's (but who knows-bought it that way) I do belive she's got a stall converter... now that I've got brakes one of these days I'll see where she brakes loose. She DOES suk alotta gas!!! So Gear Vendors is intresting to me, but with all the crap NZ went throu I may just switch gears.

scf100.... I had good pedal with the drums. Now I'd say the pressure is slightly firmer, but "one footing it" is still no problem.

BTW... I kept them manual cause I did not want to deal with the vacum issues (being a HEMI an all) BUT the other side of the coin is .... my bodyman is putting together a 70 R/t 440 car and STILL had vacum issues.

scf ... I ordered the kit directly from SSBC. the kit is an A156 but I upgraded (probly not really necessary) to the slotted rotors. PM me if you need more info.  :2thumbs:
