Slightly different 8.75" rearend axle question..
« on: June 06, 2007 - 07:37:50 AM »
I did a search using the "search" engine..

My situation is a little different.

I have set the endplay adjuster on the right side and have the required endplay. However, my dirver's side axle continues to have to much endplay probably about 1/16th-3/16ths.
I have the retaining plate firmly torqued down onto the axle housing studs and used the right seals etc.

I don't think that the bearing or collar is bad as the rearend came from a low mileage 69 RR that was totaled a few months after it was bought (front end collision so rear end was not damaged).

What can I do to fix it?

Undo everything and reset end play adjustment on the right side and then tighten down the left?
I don't want to have to spend anymore money on this rearend as I'll be upgrading to a complete dana 60 next year once my wife is over the sticker shock of a heavily built E-headed roller cammed 440 and billet drum 727 from CRT

Thanks in advance..

Elmo

The adjuster should change the end play on both sides since the "button" in the middle touches both ends of the axles. :clueless:

hit the right axle with a heavy hammer to seat the left axle into the brg & push the flaoter pin over then set the end play again

I neglected to mention that this is a 489 cone type SG that I swapped in for the old 742 one-legger that came in the rearend originally.

AFAIK this means that no thrust buttons can fall out and so only one thing can be wrong and that is as you said the axles/bearings aren't fully seated.

Sounds like a BFH and a few good whacks on each axle are in order :smilielol:
