Fuel Injector cleaning?
« on: June 29, 2007 - 02:53:02 PM »
Anyone ever clean fuel injectors yourself?  My little pet project 5.0 I bought kinda chokes the first time you touch the accelerator.  Like if you barely tap the gas it sounds like it misfires on 2 cylinders, but right after the first 1/8 inch of pressing the accelerator it runs great and doesn't choke at all.  I already put new plugs and wires on it, so i thought it was probably the injectors.  Since new ones are 40 bucks a piece and  getting them cleaned costs cheaply at 20 bucks an injector...anyone clean them yourself?  If so...how? :dunno:

The pressurized injector cleaner that attaches at the fuel rail  works best. You unplug your fuel pump (pull fuse) and hook up the pressurized can to the fuel pressure gauge fitting and run the car off of it. You can get it professionally done and I have also seen the kits at Hi-Lo'/oreilley and other auto stores. Worth a shot at $35 before spending $300 on a new set of injectors. On the relatively cheap domestic injectors I would not waste my money trying to clean beyond the $35 kits. if that does not work buy new injectors. I'd try cleaning the throttle body and idle air control valve as well. Doesn't sound like an injector issue.

the kits the dealers use are litterally the same aersol can stuff you can buy at an autoparts store. biggest thing is unplug the fuel pump when you do it and if it comes with a little regularor then run it at the lowest psi the car will idle on so it has the longest time to go though the system. and if it has a return line plug it or the 35 dollar can will go right in the tank.

it's the block attached to the throttle body with the wires going to it. Remove throttle body from car and remove idle valve from throttle body and clean both well with c arb cleaner to get all the carbon out.
